About Beanitos Baked Bean Mac’n Cheese Crunch Chips
These baked bean chips are marketed as an alternative to traditional chips, and a nutritious snack on the go.
Taste:
These chips have a crispy texture and a strong cheese flavour that resembles traditional cheese puffs.

Ingredients:
Compared to traditional cheese puff snack alternatives, these chips have a shorter ingredient list.
The first ingredient is white beans. Since ingredients are listed by weight on food labels, this means that which beans are present in this food item in the largest quantity (they are actually chips made out of beans, as advertised!).
These chips are also free from artificial flavours and colours.
Priority allergens: these chips are gluten free and contain dairy.
Nutrition Profile:
Fat: each serving of chips provides a source of fat coming from cheese and sunflower oil.
Carbohydrate: the carbohydrate content of these chips is moderate, relative to their traditional counterparts. The carbohydrates in these chips are mainly coming from the white beans.
Fibre: these chips are high fibre, especially for a chip alternative. There is 5g of fibre per serving coming from white beans as the main ingredient.
Protein: each serving of chips contains 9g of protein. I typically recommend aiming for ~10g of protein with each snack, so these chips are a great source of protein which is especially impressive as a chip. The protein in these chips is coming from beans and whey protein.
Sodium: I would consider these chips to be high in sodium, as they contain a similar amount of sodium per serving as traditional cheese flavoured chips.
Micronutrients: these chips are a good source of calcium and a source of iron, both of which are coming from white beans as the main ingredient.

Uses:
Since these chips contain a source of both protein and fibre, they can be used as a solo snack when you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional cheese flavoured snacks.
Cost:
I found these chips listed for $2.90-4.79 in Ontario.
The cost of these chips is moderate. They are more expensive than traditional cheese flavoured chips but similar in price compared to other products marketed as healthier chip alternatives.
Would I buy this product again?
I enjoyed this product and would purchase it again when looking for a healthier alternative to traditional cheese flavoured chips.
The ingredient profile of these chips is impressive and translates to the nutrition facts table. A bean chip we would expect to be high in fibre and protein. These are just that!
Since these chips provide a source of both protein and fibre, they can serve as a balanced snack on their own. I love any packaged snack that provides balanced nutrition and doesn’t need to be paired with anything else. Less thinking and more snacking!
To be clear: I don’t recommend snacking on these chips as a replacement for less processed sources of protein and fibre (ie. fruit, veggies, whole beans/lentils, cheese, yogurt). But these chips can serve as a great nutritious alternative for road trips, Netflix marathons, or anywhere you or your family would typically enjoy chips.
